Border Procedures Guide from Mozambique to South Africa

Freight / Commercial Clearance

All Commercial goods must be declared at Cargo Terminal (KM4).

  • Declare all commercial goods through Clearing Agents
  • Customs to validate and process entries. Goods declared are subject to search
  • Driver to stamp passport at the immigration desk
  • Proceed to check Point 7A: Subject to search by Customs border Police at both 7A and 6A. Driver to hand in the gate pass and proceed to the truck parking area
  • Driver to proceed either 3 or 3A – Immigration clearance to collect his/her passport and endorsed gate pass
  • Driver to proceed to 2 (Customs counter) and declare all goods and the truck
  • 22(DAFF) - Importation of Agricultural products such as fresh fruits and vegetables as well fishery products are subject to permits
  • 21(DOH) - The Port Health authority will regulate the importation of foodstuff, pharmaceutical and medicines

Driver to proceed to check port 1B: Subject to search by all (SAPS, Customs, Immigration. DOH and DAFF)

Pedestrian – Departure

  1. Mozambique - Check point
  • Subject to search by all (Border Police and Health and Agriculture)
  1. Mozambique - Customs
  • Travellers to declare all goods
  1. Mozambique - Immigration
  • All pedestrians to carry valid passports
  • Immigration will validate and process the travelling documents and stamp both the passport and the gate pass
  • Please collect your processed passport and proceed to 4
  1. Mozambique - Border Police Check point
  • Subject to search by Border Police and proceed to 5
  1. South African Check point
  • Subject to search by SAPS, DHA, DAFF, DOH and Customs
  • Traveller to proceed to 6
  1. South Africa - Department of Home Affairs (DHA)
  • All pedestrians to carry valid passports
  • Persons travelling with minors must be in possession of the appropriate documentation required by DHA (click HERE for more information)
  • Immigration will validate and process the travelling documents and stamp both the passport and the gate pass
  • Please collect your processed passport and the gate pass.
  • Proceed to the check point 7
  1. South Africa – SAPS, DHA and Customs
  • Pedestrians with valid passport will be allowed to go through the pedestrian channel after being processed by Immigration
  • No commercial goods will be allowed through the pedestrian channels
  • Proceed to Exit Gate 23. Subject to search by all Departments

Vehicles and Travellers

  1. Mozambique - Check point
  • Subject to search by all (Border Police, Agriculture and Health)
  1. Mozambique Customs
  • Declare all goods in your vehicles.
  • Proceed to 3
  1. Mozambique Immigration
  • All travellers to carry a valid travel document/Passport.
  • Immigration will validate and process the travelling document and stamp both the passport and the gate pass
  • Please collect your processed passport and the gate pass and proceed to 4
  1. Mozambique Border Police
  • No travellers will be allowed to cross without a valid passport.
  • Subject to search by the police
  • Proceed to 5
  1. Mozambique Check point Customs
  • Subject to search by Customs
  • Proceed to 6
  1. South Africa - SAPS, Custom; Immigration
  • Subject to search by all (SAPS, Custom; Immigration)
  • Collect a gate pass and proceed to Immigration 7
  1. South Africa – Immigration (DHA) counters
  • All travellers to carry a valid passport
  • Persons travelling with minors must be in possession of the appropriate documentation required by DHA (click HERE for more information)
  • Immigration will validate and process the travelling document and stamp both the passport and the gate pass.
  • Please collect your processed passport and the gate pass
  • Proceed to Customs 8
  1. South African - Customs
  • Declare all goods in your vehicles
  • All commercial foods to be declared through clearing agents at Import Counter
  • Declare you vehicles and identifiable valuable such cameras, laptops, etc
  • Goods and gifts purchased in Mozambique are subject to the payment of customs duties and taxes
  1. (DAFF)
  • Importation of Agricultural products such as fresh fruits and vegetables as well fishery products are subject to permits
  1. (DOH)
  • The Port Health authority will regulate the importation of foodstuff, pharmaceutical and medicines

NB Outbreak and communicable diseases will be monitored by both departments

  • Collect your processed documents and gate pass and proceed to 11
  1. South Africa – SAPS, Customs, DHA, DOH and DAFF
  • Subject to search by all the departments (SAPS, Customs, DHA, DOH and DAFF)
  • Hand in the gate pass and enter South Africa
