NAFCOCNational African Federated Chamber of Commerce & IndustryMCLI Non-Executive Board MemberVisionNAFCOC’s vision is to promote and facilitate the development of business in South Africa, thereby drawing the majority of South Africans into mainstream economic activity and the decision-making process. MissionNAFCOC’s mission is to meet the challenges and opportunities that arise in the new South Africa as the leading independent, non-profit business-support organisation that primarily, but not exclusively, serves the interests of broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) companies and small and medium sized businesses (SMMEs). NAFCOC also aims to facilitate the growth of the economy by ensuring fast-tracked economic transformation and broad-based empowerment that will result in job creation and poverty alleviation.
NAFCOC’S Proud HistoryIn the early 1940s, informal black trader organisations in and around Johannesburg began to recognise the need to sharpen their business acumen and raise the level of business awareness amongst their members. This movement led to the formation of the National African Chamber of Commerce (NACOC) in 1964 at a conference held in Orlando. In 1969, NACOC was re-organised into regions under the umbrella of a Federated Chamber of Commerce and out of this process, the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC) was born. Today NAFCOC is geared to meet the economic challenges and opportunities that arise in the new South Africa. Its main objective is to promote and encourage the development of business in South Africa. NAFCOC aims to realise this vision by drawing the majority of South Africans into the economic mainstream and by fostering a spirit of co-operation and unity amongst all business people.
