It is with a song in our he=
arts
and great anticipation that the MCLI team look forward to 2010 for all
aspects of our Maputo Corridor. We
expect to see the continued growth of the freight movement and passengers=
on
the corridor and believe that we must continue to strive towards greater
operational efficiencies - especially in the light of the Soccer Wo=
rld
Cup, where we are certainly also expecting an impact on our corridor. Right at the =
onset
of this year, we would like you to diarise your participation in the M=
CLI
MAPUTO CORRIDOR OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY WORKING GROUP MEETING on THURSDAY =
AND
FRIDAY THE 4TH AND 5TH OF FEBRUARY, 2010 in NELSPRU=
IT (TIME, VENUE AND PROGRAMME TO BE CONFIRMED),=
which
will be run in partnership with the OSBP (one stop border post) project t=
eam
of South Africa and Mozambique, Mozambique Transit Customs Team and our R=
ail
Partners. Due to the high importa=
nce of
the implementation of a revised plan for our One Stop Border Post this red
letter meeting will ensure sufficient time for all parties to be updated =
on
present positions as well as to jointly plan on the road ahead. In the spirit of our mandat=
e, and
on behalf of all our members and stakeholders, the key focus of MCLI for =
2010 which will also be covered at this workshop,=
is to
focus on the following areas on our corridor to support and promote
operational efficiencies and in so doing reduce the cost of freight trans=
port
and hence the cost of doing business in the region: § § § The Strate=
gic
Objective is: 1.=
To inform our partners of the recent growth and expected freight
volume on the corridor in line with the Port and Rail Master plans. 2.=
To obtain an update from the authorities on progress on the 24 Ho=
ur
Joint One Stop Border Post and plans for implementation. 3.=
To establish a terms of reference between private sector and the =
OSBP
project team to ensure future inclusivity and working together. 4.=
To table any operational issues which negatively impact on the
efficiency of the bi-directional flow of freight on the corridor, with the
view to MCLI engaging with the relevant public sector stakeholders to find
common solutions. The Struct=
ure of
the meeting: It is envisag=
ed
that we have a well-balanced working group comprising members of all the
relevant parties to the One Stop Border Post Project, as well as MCLI who
have both the technical expertise as well as commitment to participate and
make strategic inputs to ensure we achieve our objectives and who can fur=
ther
inform constituencies of the outcome of the workshop. Representativ=

It is
clear from our members on the ground that there are operational matters on
the corridor that need collective intervention from MCLI. We theref=

call upon committed MCLI members and stakeholders from all sectors to
participate in the Maputo Corridor Operational Efficiency Working Group.&=

Interested
stakeholders are requested to ensure that executive as well as suitably
qualified and experienced senior level operations representatives attend =
as
this meeting will have a practical focus on operational efficiencies on t=
he
