MCLI RSS Feed

RSS commonly stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. As the name suggests, it allows rich website content (such as text, picture, voice, video etc.) to be syndicated to you (and you and you and you) in a simple manner.

This means that summarised MCLI website content, such as a brief summary of our newsflashes, can be pushed to you in a RSS feed. You then see something that looks like this:

TRAC announces new Toll Road Tariffs
N4 Toll Road operator, Trans Africa Concessions, today announced new toll fees for the N4 highway linking Gauteng with Maputo.
Invitation to SAMOZACC Breakfast Seminar Banking Sector in Mozambique
The South African -  Mozambican Chamber of Commerce is inviting stakeholders and members to a breakfast seminar, where Standard Bank and Millennium BIM will give presentations on the development and current state of the banking sector in Mozambique.
Latest MFLF Minutes released
The minutes for the Maputo Freight Logistics Forum meeting which was held yesterday are now available for downloading. The meeting was attended by senior officials in the Department of Transport who spelled out the road ahead for the coming year.

Instead of now having to download or read the entire newsflash, you only get the headline and a brief summary. You can then choose which newsflash interests you the most and then be directed to that newsflash on the MCLI website.

The advantages for you

Because it is a feed, the summarised report will be pushed to you, so you always stay up to date with the latest MCLI news releases.

For MCLI and our members, RSS allows us to expose our website, which includes links to our member’s webpages, to the growing number of Internet readers who use it n a simple and free manner.

You can also use RSS to receive news headlines from other websites that use it, such as Independent Online Newspapers, NASPERS, the BBC, CNN or even share price movements etc. without having to visit each site separately. Simple. Really Simple Syndication.

What do I need?

You will see this icon in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or in Mozilla Firefox when you are surfing in an RSS enabled zone. You may then click on the icon and choose to subscribe through your browser to that site's RSS feed.

Alternatively, you need RSS reading software, sometimes called RSS Aggregators. This is available free of charge or at a price for the more advanced software. Some software can be integrated into Microsoft Outlook, so you will get the latest headlines of the RSS feeds you have chosen straight into Outlook or on your cellphone, without having to surf on the Internet or having your Inbox (and modem line) clogged up with lots of mass-mailed newsletters.

And Then?

Once you have downloaded and installed the RSS Reader, simply come back to our homepage and click on the button to add it to your RSS Reader's list of RSS feeds to follow, using that program's instructions.

Where do I get a RSS Reader?

These links will take you away from the MCLI website. The more popular RSS Aggregators are Snarfer (free,  standalone and adware / spyware free), FeedDemon (integratable into Microsoft Outlook or your cellphone) and FeedReader (free standalone). (Please note we do not support nor endorse any of these products and you use it at your own risk).

What version of RSS does MCLI use?

At the moment, we use RSS 0.91.
