tracIt is with regret that Trans African Concessions (TRAC) advises all stakeholders and road users of planned protest action by the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) on the 4th of April 2016, from 9h00 until 14h00, at the Middelburg and Nkomazi Toll Plazas.

According to a notification received from the organisation, the protests are aimed at raising awareness of the increased prices of toll fees. This follows an increase in toll fees on the 1st of March 2016 across the N4 Toll Route, and all other toll roads in South Africa. The toll fees are regulated, approved and gazetted by the Transport Ministry and are adjusted annually in accordance to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Given the situation, TRAC assures road users that protocols and procedures will be implemented to ensure as little disruption as possible occurs on the N4 Toll Route during this period. Although TRAC does not foresee any disruptions due to these protests, contingency plans have been put in place at the affected plazas to ensure that these facilities continue to operate at optimal levels throughout these demonstrations.

Furthermore, while TRAC acknowledges and respects people’s right to protest, we vehemently condemn any acts of intimidation or violence during such rallies and trust that such will not occur during these marches. As the safety of our road users and employees are paramount to us, we have also engaged the SAPS and relevant emergency authorities to ensure that the road, and our facilities in the vicinity of the protests remain safe during the protest action.

TRAC apologises in advance should any disruptions or inconveniences occur and urge road users to contact our 24-hour helpdesk on 0800 87 22 64 or 082 881 4444 for more information pertaining to the protests, or in the event of an incident or emergency related to this matter.
